I have nothing against swimming in salt water or sharks I actually love both. But I must say for people who are not fans of sharks this is one of the major pros of the great lakes and lake superior will always hold a special place in my heart as my first Great Lake.

Lake of the Ozarks has always struck me as one of those must go to destinations in Missouri to boat and enjoy the outdoors. It might be more similar to lake Minnetonka up here in Minnesota than say the Boundary Waters but it still makes me just as jealous seeing photos from cousin down there when they are out swimming a month earlier or later than we do up here ;)

My family has been doing a family vacation up to the Whitefish Chain of Lakes every year for +20 years now. I have always loved how beautiful it is up there especially on calm dark nights when the lake mirrored the sky. It is what inspired me to paint this piece while up there this year (2020) as well as take time to photograph other beautiful things about the lakes that are like a second home. More to come soon!

This painting was made to capture the beauty of being out by water late at night and hearing the hauntingly beautiful calls of loons. It shows the beauty of the night in wild places where the only sounds you hear are what you would have heard hundreds of years ago. Falling asleep to the sound of loons calling on the lake is one of my favorite things when going up to cabins in Northern Minnesota.
