In 1987, Charleston resumed minor league baseball after a three-year absence. The new team was first called the Charleston Wheelers, so named for the city's history of stern- and side-wheeled boats. The Wheelers began as a co-op team, with players from several Major League Baseball franchises including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves. In 1988, the franchise became the Chicago Cubs' third full-season Class A franchise (the other two being Peoria in the Midwest League and Winston-Salem in the Carolina League). The only two players on that 1988 squad to reach the Major Leagues were SS Alex Arias and C Matt Walbeck.

An 1893 advertisement for Stereopticons and Lantern Slides produced by the McIntosh Battery & Optical Company of Chicago Illinois. Long before modern travel, movies, television and the internet people could view a wide range of subjects using ' Lantern Slides ' with a Stereopticon. These lantern slides were photographic and were sometimes hand painted. From education to travel to humor, most subjects were available for viewing using the Stereopticon. They became so popular that one could visit galleries, pay a modest fee and view lantern slides by subject. I have a few different colors available.

Another flag mashup, this one was inspired by a good friend of mine, who grew up in Albuquerque but spent years and years living in (and working for) Chicago. Personally, I have never been to NewMexico, but have fond memories of the Windy City, the shorefront of Lake Michigan, St Patrick's day parade, the views from (then) Sears Tower. I will go to New Mexico one day. In the meantime, here's a take of what might have happened if Chicago had been located somewhat closer to Santa Fe than to the Great Lakes.

This movie print celebrates black proud identities all over the globe and all who support freedom for all. It is a tribute to the lives lost in the struggle for black freedom.

Nighthawks is a 1942 oil on canvas painting by Edward Hopper that portrays people in a downtown diner late at night as viewed through the diner's large glass window. The light coming from the diner illuminates a darkened and deserted urban streetscape. It has been described as Hopper's best-known work and is one of the most recognizable paintings in American art. Within months of its completion, it was sold to the Art Institute of Chicago.

Chicago's editions of the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps were spread out across dozens of volumes, each containing hundreds of map sheets - sadly, several volumes are "lost", though many are available online through the Library of Congress, Chicago Public Library, and many universities. All of these maps were hand-drawn. They are an essential historical resource showing the location and construction of every dwelling, business, outbuilding, and city facility in existence at the time the maps were researched and drawn - you might be surprised at what used to be located where your dwelling is!
