On June 14, 1969, the 7th Engineer Brigade relocated to Ludendorff Kaserne ("kaserne" is a loanword from German that means "barracks") in Kornwestheim to join VII Corps, at which time the Brigade activated six battalions under its headquarters. Both men and equipment for the brigade were taken from the 540th and 555th Engineer Groups, which in turn were inactivated.

The 503rd unit cadre was selected from expertise of 7742nd Engineer Base Depot at Hanau. The were selected for skills as heavy equipment operators and maintenance specialists. The unit was named 503rd Engineer Company - Light Equipment and later designated as 503rd Engineer Company (Combat Support Equipment) in 1983. The 503rd served under the 563d Engineer Battalion on Ludendorff along with 7th Engineer Bde HQ’s.

7th Engineer Brigade was formed in June 1969 through the consolidation of two former engineer groups: the 540th Engr Gp and the 555th Egr Gp. The Brigade had the motto of "Engineers - Lead the Way" and had a very high morale. The Brigade deployed with VII Corps for the Gulf War. We grew to over 8,500 soldiers, three Groups, 10 Battalions, and assorted companies. The 307th Engineer Battalion began its existence as a Regiment, the 307th Engineers, that was constituted on 5 August 1917 in the National Army and assigned to the 82nd Division. During World War II, the Battalion would fight in six campaigns, earning a coveted Arrowhead device for three of the streamers by participating in an assault landing. The Battalion has been deployed on numerous occasions in defense of the country, including two Armed Forces Expeditions (Dominican Republic and Greanda), Southwest Asia (often called the First Gulf War, and two both Afghanistan and Iraq in the War on Terror. After being inactivated and relieved from assignment to the 82nd Airborne Division in June 2006.
