Dungeness Beach Fishing Boats by Colin Fifield

While driving along the A251 from Faversham and heading towards Challock; I spotted this beautiful field of flowers as I approached Sheldwich,Kent,England. I do not know what sort of flowers they are, but they certainly make a wonderful sight..! Against the line of trees in the distance, you can make out The Parish Church of St.James,Sheldwich. Impressions of Dungeness This is the Marconi Structure or 'Sheds' at Dungeness. Built around the late 1890's Guglielmo Marconi used this building as a research and development centre for transmitting radio signals. In 1899 he became the first person to send a message across the English Channel. Dungeness is formed mostly of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland. Cuspate forelands are also known as cuspate barriers or Nesses. They extend outwards from the shoreline in a triangular shape and in the case of Dungeness are stabilized by vegetation forming a unique eco system. Taken at Pegwell Bay,Kent,England and shows the sun just rising above the horizon as you look out to sea across the marshes. The port of Ramsgate is just out of sight,on the left hand side of the scene. It was a cold morning with a bit of a frost. I went there with a friend called Richard Hill, who is a local artist and recently has become very interested in photography. Tonbridge is a very special place for me as it is my home town. As children, my sisters and I would run up and down the pathway to the top of the lookout mound where there is a wishing well. My father would tell me that the dip was a sleeping dragon and we would tip toe around it so not to wake it. We had many idyllic picnics whilst rowing a boat on the River Medway with our grandparents. I chose this perspective because it encompasses so many things about Tonbridge - the 'one ton bridge', the river, the castle and the town clock.
