Greek immigrant Christy Mihos opened the first market in Brockton, MA during 1934. By the 1960's, Peter & James Mihos underwent an expansion by opening multiple convenience locations. During the 1970's, brothers Jim & Christy (grandson of the original Christy) began operating the chain, performing their own further expansion by acquiring the Sunny Corner Farms convenience chain. With locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island & Connecticut, Christy's Markets operated approximately 144 convenience store locations at its peak. By 1998, the Mihos family sold essentially all their locations to the 7-Eleven Corporation. The first County Seat store opened in Minneapolis in 1973 and was an offspring of the grocery store chain Super Valu Stores. County Seat grew to be one of the nation's largest mall-based specialty retailers of casual wear for teens and young adults with more than 630 jean stores in 46 states. Jeans and jean jackets account for more than 50 percent of the company's sales in 1993. Teens do their shopping in the malls, according to County Seat research, and the company expected its growth to continue with the growth of regional malls. The chain closed in 1999 following Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Pay 'n Save was a retail company founded by Monte Lafayette Bean in Seattle, Washington, in 1940. Over the years, Pay 'n Save was the leading drugstore chain in Washington and was the owner of several Washington-based retailers, including Lamonts and Ernst.

Bullock's was a chain of full-line department stores operational 1907-1995, headquartered in Los Angeles, growing to operate across California, Arizona and Nevada. Bullock's was founded in 1907 at Seventh & Broadway in downtown Los Angeles by John G. Bullock, with the support of The Broadway Department Store owner Arthur Letts. In 1923, Bullock and business partner P.G. Winnett bought out Letts' interest after his death.

A&A Records was a Canadian record store chain. Prior to the expansion of Sam the Record Man in the early 1960s, A&A was the dominant record store chain in Canada. It was acquired by CBS Records after it lost the dominant market position to the Sam's chain, but was reacquired by a Toronto investment group in 1981. After an ill-advised attempt to rapidly expand their scope of operations in the late 1980s and early 90s, A&A Records filed for bankruptcy in 1993, shutting down all stores.

What a history here! Founded by Marty Bloom, Vinny Testa's opened its first location in 1993 in Brookline, MA. By 2000, there were seven locations throughout the state (with additional locations in Newton, Natick, Lexington, Dedham, Back Bay & Danvers). In 2002, the chain was sold to Minneapolis-based Buca, Inc. Sometime in 2003, the chain was rebranded to "Vinny T's of Boston". By 2006, Buca, Inc. sold the then 11-location chain to Bertucci's Corp of Northboro, MA. Only 3 years later, in 2009, Bertucci's Corp sold the chain to C&T Restaurant Management, Inc out of New York. Very shortly after this transaction, C&T agreed to sell off its Vinny T's leases to Planet Hollywood Inc. (who happened to purchase Buca, Inc in 2008...t...
