After WWII had come to an end, wartime rationing and conservation were over, and Americans were ready to hit the road and see the sights. Travel stickers became a popular souvenir of the places people visited and could be found at most service stations, landmarks, motels, and restaurants along America’s highways. Whether they were stuck on luggage, into albums, or right on the family car, these stickers were a ubiquitous sight for years to come. This one is based on a design celebrating Oregon's Timberline Lodge which opened its doors back in 1938. If it looks familiar, it might be because the exterior views of Timberline Lodge were used in 1980s The Shining, the film adaptation of the 1977 novel set at the fictional Overlook Hotel.
