The Big Chicken in Marietta. GA was not originally built for a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. S.R. "Tubby" Davis built it for his eatery called Johnny Reb's Chick, Chuck 'N Shake in 1956 at 12 Cobb Parkway in Marietta. Highway 41 had just been built. He thought it was a great way to advertise. In 1966, Davis sold the restaurant to his brother, who turned it into a KFC franchise.

Greg Maddux is best known for his accomplishments while playing for the Atlanta Braves & the Chicago Cubs. With the Braves, he won the 1995 World Series. He was the first pitcher in major league history to win the Cy Young Award four consecutive years. Maddux is the only pitcher in MLB history to win at least 15 games for 17 straight seasons. In addition, he holds the record for most Gold Gloves with 18, and most putouts by a pitcher with 546, including a tied live-ball-era record of 39 putouts in a season. A superb control pitcher, Maddux is one of only ten pitchers ever to achieve both 300 wins and 3,000 strikeouts, and is the only pitcher to record more than 300 wins, more than 3,000 strikeouts, and fewer than 1,000 walks.

Rich's Cobb County was enlarged in 1968. Meanwhile, by 1970, the official name of the shopping hub had morphed to COBB CENTER. In 1973, the new shopping center on the block was CUMBERLAND MALL. This superregional complex dwarfed COBB CENTER. Cobb County's first mall did a quick "keeping up with CUMBERLAND" renovation, whereby it was renamed COBB CENTER MALL. As part of the early '70s makeover, open shopping concourses at COBB CENTER MALL were roofed-in and climate-controlled. The remodeling was completed in November 1973. The shopping hub then covered approximately 409,600 leasable square feet. It was demoted to a Clearance Center before being shuttered in early 2004.
