Cu is the symbol for the element Copper. Taken on an overcast day, you can see the detail, and color variations, clearly in the gorget of this male Allen's Hummingbird. On a sunny day, what is copper colored here, would be bright red. It would be so bright that most detail would be lost. This guy likes my yard. He has been hanging out for months. Usually males stop by for only a couple days. There are a lot of Allen's girls in the yard these days, so maybe it's a 'birds and bees' sort of thing.

All I can hear when I look at this photo is the raucous din of Reine's ever-present seagulls, seen just to the right of the dock as they swoop and play just above the near-freezing waters of the fjord. This was such a change from the day before, when clear blue skies and golden light filled the fjord, but it was still a stunning scene. Even as the snow moved back in and completely blocked my view of the mountains, I wondered why I had to leave.

This is an image of a walking bridge, not a bridge that walks but a bridge over which you can walk ;-), near Exeter, Onatrio.It's really cool structure, spanning as it does, the river that flows down through the town. What I love about this image is the way the bridge appears to dive into the trees beyond.

If visiting the Nymphemburg Palace, just on the outskirts of Munich, you'll notice a series of lodges, arranged in a semicircle, that face the front of the palace. In this image, the buildings seem almost like scale models, so I gave the sky prominence. The colours are overwhelmingly primary.

This photo captures a dramatic and moody landscape of a field with trees on the horizon under a stormy sky. The clouds are dark and ominous, creating a sense of unease and tension. The photo conveys the feeling of an approaching storm and the power of nature.

This image depicts a solitary tree by the side of the road somewhere near the western end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. While driving the parkway, I was really taken with the view to the south at this point. The tree overlooked a magnificent vista of blue fringed mountains, but in that moment, it was the tree, in its lonely isolation, that piqued my interest. The layering of green foreground, blue mountains, and a turbulent sky, with the tree and rock placed on this simple landscape that made it for me. I hope you enjoy it too!

This is an image of the open, outer gallery on the south side of the Angkor Wat temple. The temple is enormous. Although we were there with many hundreds of others, it wasn't difficult to find incredible views, such as this, without another person in sight. Although the temple was built about 900 years ago, it is a remarkable testament to its builders in that it remains an incredible architectural masterpiece today. It is an awe inspiring experience to walk through the complex, one that I won't forget. What I love about this image is the incredible depth; the vanishing point at the far end. Think of the engineering required to build something so straight all those years ago.

Capitola is just a few miles from Santa Cruz, on the California coast, at the northern end of Monterey Bay. This was taken on a mid-July morning, before the clouds cleared. I was fortunate that a break in the clouds came at just the right time to illuminate the colorful pastel apartments on the beach. Just as quickly as it came, it left, leaving overcast skies for the rest of the day.

This is an image of a pair of condo towers in downtown Toronto. I loved the balconies on the two buildings, where they didn't line up in the way balconies usually do on buildings like these. The alignment varies from floor to floor, and yet they follow a theme, The buildings are a pair of architectural delights.
