Sandy Belond was a Southern California hot rodder and one of the first dry lakes racers to go over 100 mph. He opened Sandy’s Muffler Shop in 1938 and aside from traditional exhaust work, Sandy began designing and building custom headers and exhaust systems that quickly became a popular on the local hot rod scene. After a short stint in the Marines towards the end of the war, Sandy was ready to get back to work and founded Southern California Muffler Service. Aside from continuing his custom work, Sandy developed his Equa-Flow line of off the rack exhaust systems. This line revolutionized the industry by utilizing the first ever jigs for exhaust systems that ensured each model was true and accurate to the vehicle it was designed for.

The Weiand Company started as a performance parts warehouse in the 1930s, selling a variety of early speed parts. The first Weiand product, the world's first aluminum intake manifold. debuted in 1937. Weiland would go on to create some of the most innovative performance intake manifolds available while also developing some of the most sought after superchargers ever made.

The 20th century saw a rise in American’s fascination with the Pacific Islands and their native culture. Images of the traditional life of native islanders captivated the residents of the Continental U.S. and brought about a desire to fill their mundane environment with some of the iconography of the islands. Post World War II returning GI’s brought back images of the Pacific Islands and the fascination with Tiki emerged. By the 1960s Tiki could be seen everywhere. It adorned buildings, restaurants, motels and all manner of advertising. Exports of authentic Tiki could not keep up with the demand.

Founded in 1957, Holman-Moody was for years the official racing contractor for Ford as they race prepped GT40s, A/FX Mustangs, Cobras, Falcons, and various stock cars for NASCAR, NHRA and numerous other auto racing series from their shop in Charlotte, North Carolina. They prepared race cars that were driven by some of the best drivers in the world and would eventually transition from racing team support to an all out racing factory. Now Holman-Moody was not only building and racing their own cars, they were building complete, turn-key race cars and selling them to other teams. Jerry Jardine started Jardine Header Co. humbly in 1958 from his parent’s back yard in Pasadena, California. He was working at Pearly’s Muffler Shop prior to this and building some custom headers. Word traveled and a demand for more and as more header work followed, he set up shop not far from home in Garden Grove. Jerry studied the European sports car headers of the day and adapted the engineering to American cars with great success. The ’58 348 Impala that he owned was his original testbed and the first part number. Up until this time headers were custom-built on your car, so Jardine was the first (or at least one of) to produce a true bolt-on header in a box. In 1974, then-publisher of Street Rodder and Street Chopper magazines, Tom McMullen, saw a growing trend in custom vans and pickups cruising Southern California and making the scene at hot rod shows. Using the popular saying "Keep on Truckin'" as a basis, Truckin’ magazine was created. In 1975, the first issue went on sale at newsstands for $1.00 under the TRM Publications (which stood for Tom and Rose McMullen) family of auto magazines. From 1975 to May 1995, Truckin’ was published by TRM before being sold off to a larger media group after Tom and his wife died when their Rockwell Commander 112 crashed into a field in Oklahoma. The title changed hands a few more times over the years before going digital and finally ceasing in 2019.
