*Bosham* Number of views as of 13th August 2018 = 420. Bosham (pronounced Bozzam) is a picturesque coastal village situated on an inlet of Chichester Harbour, in the southern county of West Sussex, England. It's an idyllic spot, with the 10th century Holy Trinity Church, never far from view. Motorists must beware however, because at high tide the sea comes right into the old village, flooding the lower road around the harbour and with it several car parking spaces. Arundel Number of views as of 1st May 2019 = 375. Ancestral home of the Elven Knights of Arundel (sorry, made that bit up, sounds like something from Lord of the Rings, but I believe the following is true...). The restored mediaeval castle at Arundel (West Sussex, England) dominates the neighbouring town and the surrounding landscape. The castle was founded on Christmas Day in the year 1067 by Roger de Montgomery, the first Earl of Arundel, an honour bestowed on him by his cousin William the Conqueror. For the last 400 years the castle has been in the family of the Duke of Norfolk. Date: 28th October 2013.

Arundel Castle Gardens Number of views as of 28th July 2016 = 280. The grounds of Arundel Castle (West Sussex, England) have been open to the public since 1800 and the gardens since 1854. This particular garden (The Collector Earl's Garden) was conceived as a tribute to Thomas Howard, the 14th Earl of Arundel (1585-1646), a notable English collector of paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, books and jewellery. Date: 30th October 2013.

Despite Rye in East Sussex being such a tourist honeypot, many of its historic streets can be found completely empty of tourists - such as West Street painted here on a hot sunny day.

Fallow Deer Number of views as of 18th October 2018 = 330. A small group of fallow deer, keeping a watchful eye out to make sure that I wasn't getting any closer. Captured in West Sussex, the herd of several hundred animals is claimed to be the oldest in all England. The fallow deer was probably introduced to Britain by the Romans in the 1st century AD. Date: 23rd April 2011.

They were probably nowhere near the edge but due to the foreshortening of the camera lens it sure made it appear that way.

All that remains of the West Pier in Brighton. Brighton's West Pier was closed to the public in 1975. Sadly a huge storm in 2002 and two arson attacks in 2003 reduced it to ruins and it has gradually been re-claimed by the sea ever since. It still casts an eerie beauty on the seafront though.

Another view painted from my trips to Rye. This small (8x8 inch) oil painting is from the very top of Lion Street, with the last shop, right outside the church door. With the bulk of the church to the South its a shady passage, but you get interesting effects from the light that makes it there.

This aircraft was originally built as a single seat F.4 for the Royal Air Force, by Hawker Aircraft Ltd at its Kingston-upon-Thames factory. First flight was on 17th July 1955 Tragically on 22nd August 2015, whilst performing an air display at Shoreham, the hawker hunter crashed onto the A27 outside of the Airport in West Sussex hitting several vehicles, killing 11 people and injuring 14. The pilot himself was pulled from the wreckage was critically ill.

These strange tall huts are traditional fisherman's huts found only in Hastings. I don't think they use them anymore, but they have been preserved as distinctive historic buildings, and are very popular with photographers. There are quite a few of them, but few good angles for photographs as they are clustered tightly. For this painting I've used lamp black for the basic colour with a lot of white mixed in, but its not all black and white - there are plenty of other hues blended in : mauve, crimson, vandyke brown, sap green, naples yellow and cobalt blue
