Not far from our cottage is the Naftel's Creek Conservation Area, which is a wonderful place to walk among the broad variety of trees. There's one stretch of the walk where the ground beneath tends to be a bit damp so there's a thoughtfully constructed boardwalk to save one from the soggy ground beneath. The walkway is anything but straight; the thought that the shortest route between two points is a straight line doesn't seem to have been a consideration. And why should it be when there's a lovely forest to explore?

This painting is a view of a favourite spot around Shatterford Bottom in the New Forest (Hampshire, England). Its round about early October, when the birches have lost most of their leaves and the bog myrtle changes to shades of bronze and gold. The grass is neatly cropped by the ponies that roam the forest. The water is peaty and very dark, giving the reflection of the sky this deep blue colour. Such a beautiful spot I love to visit again and again. You'll find it on the walk from Beaulieu Rd station to Brockenhurst. Painted in oil on a 20x16 inch board, based on my original photos of the location.

Bluebell Wood Number of views as of 21st June 2018 = 310. The merry, merry month of May is a fine time to rediscover those ancient English woodlands, and the carpets of bluebells often found there. This particular wood is not far from the village of Corfe Castle, Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, England. Date: 11th May 2014.

Stormy Woodland in watercolor, by Conni Schaftenaar Playing around with sketching a winter bare tree, then flooded some blues around it. Once dry, I put in a couple more larger trees in the background and some pine trees nearer the foreground. I liked the "wintery" look of the sky lowering over the woodland. This turned into a postcard I submitted to a local postcard exhibition, and it has sold! Yay!
