My interpretation of The Star, the 17th Major Arcana Card in the Tarot. It represents hope, inspiration, insight, courage, spiritual enlightenment, and deep healing, particularly following a period of difficulty. Some symbols I have incorporated include bleeding heart (finding beauty in pain, inspiration, healing), primrose (healing grief and heartache, hope amidst despair), firefly (inspiration, light in the darkness, joy, hope), moth (transformation), birch tree (rebirth, new beginnings, growth).

This is an image from a tarot deck I illustrated which was written by author Kristoffer Hughes and one of seventy eight paintings I produced for the deck. This card is known as the Hermit in the traditional RWS deck.

A desolate plain stretched before me. A full moon looked down as if in contemplative hesitation. Under her wavering light the shadows lived their own peculiar life. On the horizon I saw blue hills, and over them wound a path which stretched between two grey towers far away into the distance. On either side the path a wolf and dog sat and howled at the moon. I remembered that dogs believe in thieves and ghosts. A large black crab crawled out of the rivulet into the sands. A heavy, cold dew was falling. Dread fell upon me. I sensed the presence of a mysterious world, a world of hostile spirits, of corpses rising from graves, of wailing ghosts.

When I possessed the keys, read the book and understood the symbols, I was permitted to lift the curtain of the Temple and enter. its inner sanctum. And there I beheld a Woman with a crown of gold and a purple mantle. She held a sword in one hand and scales in the other. I trembled with awe at her appearance, which was deep and mysterious, and drew me like an abyss.

This design boasts a gothic take on the tarot card The Devil. Baphomet represents the balance between good & evil, men & women, and human & animal. The inverted pentagram attracts sinister forces & reverses the order of the world. Baphomet holds its arms in the ' As Above So Below ' sign symbolizing the demon's duality. The man and woman show signs of animal like change with horns and tails.

A revival of the traditional The Magician tarot card is illustrated here. The magician uses the tools at his disposal -- swords, wands, cups, and pentacles -- to realize and accomplish his goals. He takes spiritual and manifests it into something tangible. An infinity symbol hovers above his head and an ouroboros acts as the magician's belt; this represents the magician's infinite potential. The greenery and vegetation symbolize the abundant ideas and desires the magician conjures.

The Hermit suggests that you are in a phase of introspection where you are drawing your attention inwards and looking for answers within. You are in need of a period of inner reflection, away from the current demands of your position.

The World represents an ending to a cycle of life, a pause in life before the next big cycle beginning with the fool.

The High Pirestess Card, in A High Fidelity, High Resolution rendering of the traditional Rider-Waite Style. The High Priestess sits in front of a thin veil decorated with pomegranates. The veil represents the separate conscious and subconscious realms, the seen and the unseen, and serves to keep casual onlookers out. Only the initiated may enter. The pomegranates on the veil are a symbol of abundance, fertility and the divine feminine, and are sacred to Persephone who ate a pomegranate seed in the underworld and was forced to return every year.
