Saltburn by the Sea has maintained much of its original charm as a Victorian seaside resort including its pier, the colourful Italian Gardens and walks through Riftswood. Saltburn has the oldest water balanced cliff tramway in Britain that is still in operation, linking the town with the pier 120 feet below. You can park at sea level where the old fishing village straddles Skelton Beck. The Ship Inn remains as a focal point, steeped in smuggling folklore. The Cleveland Way passes through along the coastline and follows a steep path up to Huntcliff, once the site of a Roman Signal Station.

Birds flying by the Sea

I based my composition on the iconic cabin, the car and of course the demonic possessions themselves. Using a few reference images from the film, I managed to work together this composition and set to work painting it. Because it's a horror piece and should reflect the hand crafted aesthetic of the movie, I worked quite rough on a lot of this painting, going for a more expressionist take than my usual approach. I'm very satisfied with the final piece and especially with the title treatment added to the piece, I think it works really well as a retro horror poster that would fit nicely to the original marketing.

The sea crashes onto the rocks of the island of Hamnøya in the village of Reine. This was sunrise on my second-to-last morning in the islands, and it was by far the most memorable day of our trip. For two hours, the sun sat just above the horizon to the south and lit up the entire fjord in pink.

Impressions of Dungeness Many of the houses are built around old railway carriages, bought by fishermen whose boats are on the beach. Some are owned by people trying to escape the pressures of the rat-race. These properties have a high value on the property market. Dungeness is formed mostly of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland. Cuspate forelands are also known as cuspate barriers or Nesses. They extend outwards from the shoreline in a triangular shape and in the case of Dungeness are stabilized by vegetation forming a unique eco system.
