The Dayton Triangles were an original franchise of the American Professional Football Association (now the National Football League (NFL)) in 1920. The Triangles were based in Dayton, Ohio, and took their nickname from their home field, Triangle Park, which was located at the confluence of the Great Miami and Stillwater Rivers in north Dayton. They were the longest-lasting traveling team in the NFL (1920–1929), and the last such "road team" until the Dallas Texans in 1952, who, coincidentally, descended from the Dayton franchise.

The Dayton Gems, named after the Gem City, was a professional ice hockey team based in Dayton, Ohio, in the Central Hockey League. The team was originally a member of the International Hockey League before it merged into the CHL. The team was established in 2009 and joined the IHL for the 2009–10 season, where it played three seasons until 2012. The team was named after the original Dayton Gems of the original International Hockey League. The Dayton Gems were the first adult team in North America to make helmets mandatory, long before the NHL adopted them.

Remembering the great Dayton’s Department Store in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dayton's was an American department store chain founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1902 by George Draper Dayton. He built the 6-story department store on the corner of 7th and Nicollet. Built in Renaissance Revival style, its decorative details are borrowed from ancient Greece and Rome, and its overall form is reminiscent of 15th-century Italian palazzos. It was a twin cities institution.

The Dayton Triangles were one of the original NFL teams, lasting from from 1920 to 1929. The team was made up of players from the three large factories in Dayton, leading to the name the Triangles. This is a modern re-imagining of the logo, created with the idea that the team had survived and continued to play in the NFL and that this was their current logo and wordmark.
