Scotland is such a captivating country, I loved travelling through all these different landscapes, all equally beautiful and magical. The Isle of Sky had some of the most impressive ones, I honestly felt like a fairy on a magical land!

Handsome Mourning Dove by Debra Martz The bluish crown, neck colors and bright blue eye ring of this male were just gorgeous. Birds, especially males, get much more colorful during breeding season. The female is more brownish overall with muted blue eye ring; they each have the black dots on the back. Most everyone in the US has this bird but it was just sitting there on the rock looking so pretty that I couldn't resist several shots. Cedar Waxwings Migrating North by Debra Martz We were at Paradise Pond in Port Aransas, Tx and I was tracking a Magnolia Warbler with my lens when my husband Doug called out, "Look up!" And of course, I did!! This is just a portion of the very large flock of Waxwings that flew over us. Happy to have seen this but sure would have been nice if they would have decided to circle around and land in a tree nearby. Obviously to early in the day to stop on their northbound migration on this day, May 14th. Cedar Waxwings are a shiny collection of brown, gray, and lemon-yellow, accented with a subdued crest, black mask, and brilliant-red wax droplets on the wing feathers. Winter Landscape

Unearthly lakes shine silver under an alien sky - is it Mars? No, it's the Isle of Mull, a small island off the western coast of Scotland. Mountains, water, moors, isolation, beauty. Ready to go?

I love when I find something to photograph that can trick the eye. This is the canal surface on a winter morning in Glasgow. It's all frozen up but from this angle, I could capture the reflection of the colourful waterside buildings to almost make it look like an oil painting!

Posing Anhinga by Debra Martz Well, not actually posing as it had been busy preening its backside. I thought I would never get a photo of its head looking forward but finally did! Note the tiny white feather atop its beak from all the preening it had been doing. Adult male Anhingas are black with silvery to white streaks but the females and immatures, like this one, have a pale tan head, neck, and breast. The bill, legs, and feet are yellowish orange. This group of Ruddy Ducks couldn't have turned and departed any faster. They were close to the bank when I stopped but took off before I could get out of the truck. So a lake scene it became instead of a Duck image!
