Beach at Southbourne Number of views as of 18th October 2018 = 380. The beach at Fisherman's Walk, Southbourne, a few miles to the east of Bournemouth (Dorset, England). Further east is Hengistbury Head (top left) sheltering the entrance to Christchurch harbour, and beyond (top right) you can just make out the Needles and cliffs on the Isle of Wight. Date: 15th October 2013.

Famous seafront promenade in Havana

This is the fifth in my seaside postcard series and captures the fun we had in the glorious sunshine at Lyme Regis in Dorset, one of Englands most beautiful resorts.Once famous as the location for the French Lieutenant's Woman but now a favourite spot for fossil hunters. The view from the top of Southwold Lighthouse set among the houses on the seafront. Taken through a window as access to the outside is not allowed. HDR created from one RAW file processed as three DNG files in Photomatix, adjustments in CS6 with some help from Topaz Filters. Nikon D7200 with Tamron 18-270 zoom.

This was painted from an original photograph taken on my recent day trip to Old Hunstanton, a traditional seaside spot in Norfolk in the UK. The skies inEast Anglia are amazing and never cease to give me huge inspiration for my original watercolours.

Rough sea on Madeira Drive, Brighton

I returned to St Ives (Cornwall, UK) in Spring 2018 intending to capture some scenes of the evening to turn into paintings. One stood out, and that was the harbour with the glitsy lights of the various bars and cafes and streetlights reflecting in the high water, broken only by the dark shapes of boats. It was around 10pm and there was still a hint of light left in the sky. Painted in oil on board measuring 20x16 inches.

I was on the seashore, taking a mundane picture, of a storm just offshore, but in my mind's eye, I saw this extraordinary image.

A war-weary Tommy sits thoughtfully, head bowed, rifle in hand, as he reflects upon the sheer horror of World War One during the first minute after peace was declared in 1918. This imposing metal sculpture, entitled 1101, owing to the fact the armistice went into effect at 11am on November 11, 1918, stands 9ft 5ins tall and weighs 1.2 tonnes. Built out of special corteen steel, it has been installed on Seaham seafront in Country Durham to mark the centenary of the start of the Great War. Created by local artist Ray Lonsdale, the sculpture is also intended to represent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which many of the returning soldiers endured.

Aberystwyth - Ceredigion, North Wales

For this painting I've chosen a rather unusual view of Lyme Regis. Most people would stand at one of the levels here and photograph towards the shore, but here I've stood with my back to the sea, looking over the tops of parked cars to view the jumble of walls and buildings at the focal point of this Dorset seaside town. Its the point where the two roads in meet at the shore, and where you can catch the bus home again. Its a view with lots of details to keep you looking! I've painted this in oil on a 12x12 inch board.
