While nitrogen is abundant in the air, its triple bonds are strong and hard to break so animals and most plants cannot directly use the nitrogen in the air. Instead, bacteria such as those in the Rhizobium family and lightning break those bonds to provide usable nitrogen for life.

Flerovium has a "long" half-life of 30 seconds. Scientists were hoping to find an "island of stability" isotope so transfermium elements could last long enough to be studied better.

Oganesson is part of the Group 18 noble gas family, although it is predicted to be a solid rather than a gas at room temperature. Oganesson, like most of the man-made elements, is very short-lived.

The noble gases are colorless, inert, and odorless. Oganesson is in this family, but it may be a solid at standard conditions, not a gas.

Fluorine is an element that should be handled with care! Fluorine is extremely reactive, and in its elemental / gaseous form, it can burn through sand, metal, brick, and glass. Even though the Storistir Periodic Table stories and poems describe elements, they are also stories. The first 10 poems illustrate Mary's love for her lamb and the trust built through her lamb's escapades.

Hydrogen may be the smallest element, but it is mighty! Our sun fuses approximately 6 million tons of hydrogen per second, making mostly helium, along with various other elements and energy.

Iron is needed to help carry oxygen to the blood in animals, and is crucial in making chlorophyll in plants. The Latin for iron or "firmness" is ferrum, which is why the symbol for Iron is Fe.

Gold is malleable, ageless, bright, inert and durable through time. It has uses beyond coinage and jewelry, such as in medicine, dentistry and plating of electronic components. The largest gold nugget found was the Welcome Stranger.

Bromine was name after the Greek word bromos meaning stench and is considered hazardous, playing a part in depleting ozone and oxidizing mercury.
