This is a composite using a 1933 Ford coupe hot rod I photographed at a local car show a few years ago. Like many pictures taken at these events, there were quite a number of unwanted distractions. I tried a number of creative strategies to isolate it, but with no success. One afternoon I was messing around with a Fractal generator and it produced the weird design that looked like a tear or an opening. The idea kind of blossomed from there. I wanted it to look like it's jumping into "something". I tried various ideas, planets, fire, stars, a giant eye, but decided to leave it sort of vague as to what's on the other side. Return of the graveyard creep!

Founded in 1964 in Columbus, Ohio, Nationwise was a chain of auto parts stores in the United States with a loveable mascot known as 'Motor Earl.' In 1974, Nationwise partnered with Columbus-based engine builders, The Rod Shop, sponsoring a series of highly successful drag racecars. In stores, a Rod Shop section was created as kind of a speed shop inside of a parts store. In addition to go fast goodies from all the big names, Nationwise also sold Rod Shop branded performance parts. These parts were typically embossed with NRS (Nationwise Rod Shop), making them easy to identify by collectors, even decades later. The partnership ended in 1987, and less than a decade later, Nationwise became insolvent, and closed all stores on October 15, 1995.

Launching Dreams One Burnout at a Time Drag Racing Race Car

Released in 1970, the Maverick was a compact car originally sold as a two-door coupe, intended to provide stylish looks and prolonged practicality along with comfortable, enjoyable driving. The model's objective was to compete against overseas rivals, and was widely marketed as an ‘import killer,’ which apparently worked, as 579,000 units sold in the first year alone. Engines initially included a couple of efficient 6-cyclinder options, coupled with either automatic or manual transmissions. Of course, it didn't take long for hot rodders to see the compact platform as the perfect lightweight chassis, and countless Mavericks were stuffed with powerful V8 engines that turned the economy car into a street racer to be reckoned with.
