Also known as the African Knifefish and is a member of the Gymnarchidae family. It is native to the Nile River Basin also the Senegal, Gambia, Volta, Niger and Chad River Basins in West Africa. It is nocturnal and has a poor vision, it navigates and hunts smaller fish using a weak electric field. It can swim equally well both backwards and forwards. It can reach a maximum length of 167cm (5 and a half feet) with a maximum published weight of 18.5kg (about 41 pounds).

It is a member of the Ghost Knifefish family and is native to the Amazon river basin in Venezuela, Guianas and Brazil, South America. It uses its snout to forage for food under rocks and brush. It can reach a maximum length of 47cm (about 19 inches).

They are known for their ability to stun their prey by generating electricity, delivering shocks at up to 860 volts. Despite their name, it is not closely related to the true eels but are members of the electroreceptive neotropical knifefish order, which is more closely related to the catfish. They can grow to a maximum length of 250 cm (about 8 feet) and a maximum published weight: 20.0 kg (about 44 lbs).
