Gartsherrie Iron Works was a large iron producing factory to the north of Coatbridge in the United Kingdom. It was purpose built by William Baird & Co. in 1828 and was in operation until 1967. The location was chosen due to the quantity (and quality) of blackband ironstone, coal, and limestone in the area. The works produced forge quality iron, which became world renown and was often specifically requested by engineers and designers for their projects. William Baird & Co. became a major industry concern, operating 42 blast furnaces, 16 of which were at the Gartsherrie site.
