Yellow-rumped Warbler at Water Spout by Debra Martz While hiking a few trails at Goose Island State Park in south Texas, I crossed a paved road and noticed a few picnic tables...good time for a break. But the best part was when I neared those tables, I realized there was a watering and feeding station for birds. Shortly after sitting down, in flew this migratory Yellow-rumped Warbler. When I saw this as a larger image on my computer screen I felt it looked like a painting, therefore I added a dry brush painterly effect.

Gnatcatcher On Greenery by Debra Martz The Blue-gray Gnatcatcher is a beautiful, tiny bird that makes itself known by its soft but insistent calls and its constant motion makes it hard to capture. In addition to its constant in and out, up and down movements, it flicks its white-edged tail from side to side, scaring up insects and chasing after them. Eagles convey the powers and messages of the spirit; it is man's connection to the divine because they fly higher than any other bird. Eagles bestow freedom and courage to look ahead. The eagle is also symbolic of the importance of honesty and truthful principles. This design is a collage of feathers and an eagles head.

Brightly-colored for a prinia, this is a species of lowland fields, wetlands, and meadows. Dark above, yellowish below, with a white throat, eyering, and thin stripe between eye and bill. Typically found singly or in pairs. Forages low in vegetation, flicking its long tail constantly. Hill Prinia is larger, lacks yellow on the belly, and has a longer and more prominent white supercilium. Song is a distinctive, a cascading series of twitters following a buzzy introductory note. Common swallow of Southeast Asia and the Pacific, often in cities and towns as well as above fields, lakes, and forests. Adult iridescent blue above and grayish buff below, with orangish throat and forehead. Similar to Barn Swallow, which has longer outer tail feathers and a dark line separating the throat and breast, lacking in Pacific. Young Great Tailed Grackle Calling for Food by Debra Martz I had been to Port A back in early May when the Grackles and Blackbirds were nesting in the cattails and reeds. A trip back in June provided my first views of a young Great-tailed Grackle. The pink-necked green pigeon (Treron vernans) is a species of bird of the pigeon and dove family, Columbidae. It is a common species of Southeast Asia, found from Myanmar and Vietnam south through to the major islands of Indonesia and the Philippines (where it is called "punay"). It is a medium-sized pigeon with predominantly green plumage; only the male has the pink neck that gives the species its name. The species lives in a wide range of forested and human-modified habitats and is particularly found in open habitats. Its diet is dominated by fruit, in particular figs. I had just returned from walking the 2 mile trail at the RV park hoping to get some bird photos. I heard a few but saw none! So, of course, just as I sat down in my lawn chair along came several Canyon Towhees scurrying from one bush to the next foraging on the ground. This one stopped momentarily right in front of me. Tri-colored Heron Wind Blown by Debra Martz I had been watching one of these Herons earlier on the boardwalk for quite some time when decided I needed to move on ahead. I was walking out to a point observation deck when this one flew in and landed near me. Don't know if it was the same one or not but like how the wind was ruffling its feathers and the fact that it landed by that seashell. I, also, liked the patterns made by the movement of the brackish marsh water at Leaonabelle Birding Center of Port Aransas, Texas. The brown fulvetta (Alcippe brunneicauda) is a species of bird in the family Alcippeidae. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. It is threatened by habitat loss. Most common in lowland and foothill forest; less frequently found in upper elevation montane forests. Brightly-colored and thickset pigeon of the forest canopy, usually seen flying over in pairs or small groups. Distinctive bicolored bill and bright green eyering are visible even from a distance. Both sexes are mostly green. Males have maroon backs, while females are green all over; both have jagged bright yellow striping on the wing edges. Green Heron by Debra Martz Bird watching in Port Aransas, Texas is always a delight for me...especially since I live within a 20 minute drive. I sometimes go looking for specific birds and other days, such as this one, just see what happens to show up where I'm birding. I wasn't expecting this Green H56eron to be close by the path I was walking so what a treat! A good birding day for sure!

Ring-billed Gull Gliding Quietly by Debra Martz Several gulls were quietly gliding over the spillway. I chose this one to focus on because with each circle around it was coming a bit closer to where I was. A small, grayish brown dove with dark bars on the breast and back, and bare blue skin around the eye. The call is a rapid series of short “coos,” higher pitched and faster than Spotted Dove. Native to Southeast Asia, but introduced to many islands, including the Hawaiian Islands, French Polynesia, Mauritius, and the Seychelles. Sparrow In The Pines by Debra Martz We were out hiking in Yellowstone in late summer to enjoy the amazing landscape. Then I heard this little Clay-colored Sparrow sing. I looked up and around a bit and then there it was. Verdin Snagging Insects From the Agarita by Debra Martz Many songbirds enjoy the fruits of the Agarita plant and/or the insects which the plant attracts as well and we were fortunate enough to have one in our campsite. Angry Egret by Debra Martz Snowy Egrets are fun too watch as they are full of attitude! They are quite territorial, too, when it comes to who's fishing where! The lower, angry looking Snowy was going from side to side of this penisula chasing off other snowies! The American White Pelican just carried on with its fishing.
