The Toy Tiger of Louisville, Kentucky was home to all kinds of debauchery that involved scantily clad young women in some capacity. Ranging from wet t-shirt and sexy banana eating contests, this joint made no apologies for being sleazy and never pretended to be something it wasn’t and when the stage wasn’t being used to debase women, it played host to an amazing array of national touring bands as well as popular local acts. It’s iconic, animated Las Vegas style marquee stood on Bardstown Road from the time it opened it’s doors in 1973 until last call in 1999 and then it hung around for some time after that as the building sat empty, falling into disrepair and then being razed to make way for a gas station.

Located in San Francisco's Castro District at 500 Castro Street, Harvey's was an iconic bar and restaurant that welcomed tourists and regulars alike for over a quarter-century. Occupying a space that originally housed The Elephant Walk gay bar, which first opened in 1974, Harvey's was steeped in history based on location alone. After a major fire gutted the building in 1988, The Elephant Walk required extensive work to get it back up and running, so they ended up closing down as a result. Named after gay politician and activist Harvey Milk, Harvey's took over the space in 1996, residing at the popular corner location until early 2023 when they closed up shop.

Whether you went to college in New Brunswick, New Jersey, or Tucson, Arizona, odds are you knew Greasy Tony's well. From the original location in Jersey in '68 to the AZ location that opened in '78, Greasy Tony's served up consistent cheese steaks, hoagies, and pizza for decades until founder Tony Giorgianni died in 2008. Both locations were total dives that spoke to the kind of food they served, and that's exactly how people liked it. Whether you were there between classes for a quick bite or bombed out of your mind at 3am and in need of sustenance to stave off alcohol poisoning, Greasy Tony was there for you.

It was at the end of 1957 when Seattle finally got its own dedicated jazz club when Pete's Poop Deck opened their doors. Having taken up residence in a former tavern in Pioneer Square on what was then known as Skid Road – named for the greased logs that were laid to shoot timber off First Hill to Seattle’s waterfront mills – Pete's Poop Deck was the place to be for enthusiasts of modern jazz. This low-fi establishment with its dim lighting and apple crate seating quickly grew in popularity and was THE place to take in some jazz music. From local musicians to national touring acts, Pete's Poop Deck was open nightly and promised "carefully calculated confusion," something they delivered on throughout the '60s.

Originally a leather bar with an obvious western theme when it opened in 1974, this West Village gay bar eventually played host to a rather diverse crowd with campy drag shows in it's latter years up until it's closing in 2014. This design celebrates Boots & Saddle's earliest incarnation that would end up becoming a 40-year old icon of New York's diverse LGBT scene.

Daddy-O was a great West Village beatnik dive bar known for serving regional food from western New York and for being a favorite hangout spot for local chefs. A whiskey lover's paradise, and also the only local place to get a Rochester style 'garbage plate.' Closed but not forgotten! Great gift for West Villagers and Whiskey lovers. Bonaire is a Dutch island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea about 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela that is best known for amazing snorkeling and scuba diving among the island's fringing reefs. When a trio of resident divers decided to open a bar in the island's capital of Kralendijk in the late '90s, they opted for a real 'dive bar' and created a diving themed venue. Naming it De Octopusreep (The Octopus Bar) after the many octopus found in the waters around Bonaire, the bar's waterfront location and unique theme became a popular place to grab a beer after a day exploring the Bonaire National Marine Park.

Taxi driver George Touhouliotis bought Marlena's Tavern in 1983, and proceeded to reshape the joint into a nightclub. He opened his new place, calling it Satyricon after the 1969 Federico Fellini film of the same name. Despite sitting on what was essentially Portland's skid row, Satyricon became a prominent music venue that hosted countless local and touring acts throughout the '80s and '90s. From punk and alt-rock, to hardcore and even some metal, Satyricon played host to them all between 1983 and 2010. It was the longest-running punk venue in the western United States, and has been referred to by journalists and historians as the "CBGB of the West Coast."

Without question, Re-bar was one of the Seattle's most historic nightclubs, hosting countless local and touring bands over its three decade run. Born into the grunge scene in 1990, the building it called home at the foot of Capitol Hill was built in 1930, and certainly playing into the venue's quirky charm. When it wasn't hosting live music, this anchor of the alternative arts scene presented work from local artists, theatre and comedy, and held rocking dance nights. Re-bar was routinely filled to the brim with hipsters, freaks, geeks, artists, gays, intellectuals, punks, rockers, ravers, and clubbers – a true showcase of the eclectic diversity of Seattle. The fact that they made some mean cocktails was just the icing on the cake.

Fort Lauderdale's The Button was owned by Gregg Newell, known locally simply as “Crazy Greg,” was there every night sporting his signature Hawaiian shirt and kookie propeller hat since its opening in 1970. Attached to a cheap hotel, this legendary spring break party spot was so wild, it was actually more than the city could handle at times. The Button hosted wet t-shirt, French kissing, and bikini contests, many of which resulted in fines and charges of promoting “lewd and lascivious” activity by the state as usually pushed the boundaries of both common decency and the law. The bar also routinely ran afoul of occupancy limits, a side effect of its extreme popularity. The Button closed in 1987 after mounting issues with the city.

The famous club was built out of what was originally a Foster's Cafeteria restaurant, opening its doors in 1976. Despite the brick and glass venue's terrible acoustics, during its time, The Old Waldorf hosted some of the biggest names in the music industry across a wide variety of musical genres. Despite the venue's full event calendar and solid ticket sales, the owner's closed down The Old Waldorf in 1983 and reopened it as The Punch Line comedy club which still occupies the space today. This one is based on the first of only two shirt designs the club ever released which came out sometime in 1978.

This dive bar in Disney Springs, an homage to Indy's favorite pilot Jock Lindsey, is festive year round.

P.J.’s Hollywood was a Parisian style go go club owned by Bill Doherty, Paul Raffles, Phil Tanzini, and Elmer Valentine, friends and associates from Chicago. They opened P.J.’s in 1961, taking the name from the initials of Paul and his girlfriend, Judy, who had previously run a successful club in Chicago called The Black Orchid. The goal was to create a late night destination that became the place to be when all the other nightclubs called it a night. The clientele was a mixture of celebrities, swingers, and criminals, but once they crossed under the backlit “les Poupées de Paris” (the dolls of Paris) sign, these night owls all had one thing in common – they were looking for a good time.

Joe and Pauline Saska started the restaurant in 1951, when they purchased the High Tide Bar at 3769 Mission Blvd. and gave it their name. Since day one from their prime location right in the heart of Mission Beach, Saska’s maintained it’s loungey, old-school chophouse vibe, maintaining their cool by offering straightforward steak dinners, seafood dishes, and classic cocktails in their original dark, wood-clad space with cozy booth seating and a rooftop patio.
