This original drawing is from the award winning children's book Forgetful Fred by Jay Williams and Friso Henstra (1974) The story is about a forgetful boy named Fred who searches for the Bitter Fruit of Satisfaction for the richest man in the land, Bumberdumble Pott. The fruit is stolen by a witch and in this image Fred is invisible because he wears the Cap of Darkness. He uses the Sword of Sharpness to cut the witches broomstick in two.

This work is made by my grandfather, illustrator Friso Henstra (1928-2013) It is a bookcover for the book 'Pan' by Nobelprice winner Knut Hamsun. Friso Henstra was an artist from the Netherlands and mostly famous in the US for his illustrations for children's books in the 70's and 80's. His style was original and sometimes a bit psychedelic.
