The Hipsterlopithecus ([hip-ster] Greek πίθηκος pithekos "ape")), previously called the emo and less often, the burn out or trust fund hippy, is a great ape and one of the species making up the genus Derp; the others are Pan indierocktipus, or the common “indie rock” listener from Utah. The foundations of this painting was forged in the remnants of a typhoon that smacked Seattle on Oct. 16th, 2016. I went into the flooding backyard as the storm raged and smacked my canvas into the rainwater. This punctured the canvas slightly but I feel it only adds to the nature of the piece itself. I then rushed the soaked canvas to my work table downstairs to squirt paint and swirl it into the rainwater. Then the basement started to flood. I left the canvas to sit and dry with the emotional swirls I had dragged into it. By the next day the urge to create this piece left with the storm. I had this unfinished piece with me these past few years. I knew I wanted to finish it but I wasn't absolutely sure how. Then I realized I wa...

24x18in acrylic on canvas This is the post I made after a fever dream the other day, it is the inspiration for this piece. "Just woke up from a really strange dream and had to write this down. In the dream there didn't seem to be anybody I knew, just these almost old prohibition era type gangsters all smooth talking and trying to one up each other, vying for a top position. But the person at the top of this bunch had something happen. I couldn't tell for sure what exactly but, but it left him alone and weakened. I began to see this visual of a tree losing all it's branches and leaves. The one branch near the top was weakly swaying back and forth,.. dying. Vulnerable to attack from the other gangsters vying for that top spot I imagine....
