Kitsune Long Sleeve T-Shirts

Nine Flames is a design inspired by a mythical fox of Japan. The more tails these foxes have, the older, wiser, and more powerful they are. Nine is often depicted as the greatest number of tails one may possess. Though traditionally a nine-tailed fox’s fur is said to turn white or gold, I chose to use fiery colors to tie it to that element and to evoke the likening of a red fox to flame.

I asked my youngest if she wanted to see my 'Kits-soon' she said, "yeah, that's nice.. and it's pronounced 'Kits-un-eh'"... The 'dumbass....' was just implied. My kid's a snarky jerk.

A very cute fox girl, with her kitsune friend looking at her!

Inspired by japanese mythology and art, this design depicts a kitsune, fox spirit. According to japanese folklore all foxes are supernatural beings – after reaching a certain age, they can shapeshift into human form in order to help or decieve men. With age they grow additional tails – in some tales after they are gaining their ninth tail, they turn into a tenko, a celestial fox and they ascend to the heavens.

I was always fascinated by this particular Japanese yokai, the kitsune. Thunder kitsune has always been my favorite as an idea and even if I didn’t follow the tradition I think I made her justice with this piece.
