Our favorite cryptid and yours... MOTHMAN!

A spooky fall design with my own updated interpretation of Mothman. Not sure why, but I see him as a forest-y witch type character lately.

Because moth, get it?

Sometimes in the deep woods of Appalachia that feeling you are being watched is real.

Since the Mothman is native to West Virginia, I chose to have him don a crown made with WV native florals: rhododendron, daffodils, apple blossoms (the state fruit is golden delicious apple), and a honeycomb for the state insect, which is a honeybee.

In our latest design we pay tribute to the unsung hero of the Mothman flap, Mary Hyre. Designed by the great Desdymona, Mary Hyre is depicted fending off Indrid Cold, Mothman, the Men in Black and UFOs with the journalistic tools of the trade, shining a light on the truth.

The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register, dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States.

The source of the legend is believed to have originated from sightings of out-of-migration sandhill cranes or herons.
