Operation Allies Refuge is an ongoing United States military operation to airlift selected at-risk Afghan civilians, particularly interpreters, U.S. embassy employees, and other prospective Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants, from Afghanistan. U.S. personnel also assisted NATO and regional allies in their respective evacuation efforts at Kabul International Airport. The operation is concurrent with the larger American military withdrawal from Afghanistan and the evacuation of foreigners and vulnerable Afghans.

Redesignated 19th Bombardment Group (Very Heavy). Activated on 1 Apr 1944. Trained for combat with B-29's. Moved to Guam, Dec 1944-Feb 1945, for duty with Twentieth AF. Entered combat on 12 Feb 1945 with an attack against a Japanese airfield on Rota. Flew its first mission against the Japanese home islands by striking Tokyo on 25 Feb 1945. Conducted daylight raids against strategic objectives, bombing aircraft factories, chemical plants, oil refineries, and other targets in Japan.

The 17th Photo Recon Squadron departed overseas bound for the South Pacific. Assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), 13th Air Force, 4th Photographic Reconnaissance Group (4th PRG) On January 16, 1942 transfered to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. The squadron flew its first combat missions on February 5, 1943 and the next day was redesignated the 17th Photographic Squadron (Light) and began operating from Fighter 2 (Kukum) on Guadalcanal.

When the United States entered World War I, the 15th Cavalary Regiment regiment sailed for France as one of the four mounted regiments on duty with the Allied Expeditionary Force. The fighting had already bogged down into trench warfare and the role of horse cavalry was nearly over. The 15th was called upon to dismount and relieve exhausted infantry units in the trenches. It was the tank that finally broke the trench lines to end both the war and the role of the horse soldier. The 15th served occupation duty after the war until June 1919 when it returned to the United States. The 15th Cavalry Regiment was assigned to the American Expeditionary Force.

The ANA Commando Brigade are part of the Afghan National Army and were formed from existing Infantry battalions. The program was established in early 2007 with the intent of taking one battalion from each of the ANA.

The 56th Artillery Command is a two-star command of the United States Army pending reactivation in October of 2021. The unit was originally formed in 1942 with the last period of active service being 1963 through 1991 utilizing the nuclear Pershing Missle System. MG Stephen J. Maranian will head the Army’s 56th Artillery Command from its future headquarters in Mainz-Kastel, near the Army's existing four-star headquarters in Wiesbaden. In 1968 the group created the Pershing Professionals Badge to recognize individual proficiency on the Pershing missile system. It was awarded through 1979. The concept of the door gunner originated during the Vietnam War, when helicopters were first used in combat in large numbers. The original personnel who served as early door gunners aboard CH-21, UH-34, and UH-1 helicopters in Vietnam, were enlisted men, with a designated and specially trained crew chief serving as both the aircraft's maintenance manager and a door gunner. Normally, a second enlisted soldier served as a second door gunner (such as on a UH-1, and UH-34, which both used two gunners – one on each side of the aircraft). Later, as the war progressed, the door gunner position sometimes used a non-aviation rated/trained soldier or marine, that volunteered for door gunner duties.

The regiment was sent to the island of Mindoro as the 11th Airborne was preparing for its part in the Battle of Luzon. On 3 February 1945 the 511th on board 48 C-47 aircraft performed a combat jump on Tagaytay Ridge. During the Battle of Manila, the 511th fought through the Japanese Genko Line from 5–12 February, penetrating as far into Manila as the Dewey-Libertad area, before turning east to attack and recapture Fort William McKinley (Fort Bonifacio, now Bonifacio Global City).

The 193rd Glider Infantry Regiment was an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army during World War II. It was part of the 17th Airborne Division and fought during the Battle of the Bulge.

The 66th Armor Regiment is the oldest armored unit in the United States Army, tracing its lineage to the 301st Tank Battalion which served with distinction soon after it was formed in the First World War. Following the war, elements of the 66th and other units of the 2nd Armored Division were selected to occupy the American sector of Berlin and serve as the first American troops to enter the fallen German capital. The 14th Infantry Regiment ("Golden Dragons") is a United States Army light infantry regiment. The 14th Infantry Regiment did not take part in combat during World War I. The 38th Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army. 38th Field Artillery Battalion on 8 July 1941 along with a unit motto, “Steel Behind The Rock.’ It was redesignated to reflect the unit’s changing status, first as the 38th Artillery Regiment in 1958 and then fore the 38th Field Artillery in 1971. Its shield is red, the branch color of Artillery. A combination of three pallets and eight artillery shells denotes the numerical designation of the unit. The crest of the insignia contains Mt. Rainier, emblematic of Washington State where the Regiment was originally formed, and a star that stands for Texas, the location of Fort Sam Houston where the unit was organized and redesignated before World War II.

SOG’s primary mission-set was strategic reconnaissance through its recon teams,

The 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry (3-4 Cavalry, or popularly known as "Three-Quarter Horse" or "Mackenzie's Riders" after Ranald S. The 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized)—nicknamed the "Red Diamond", or the "Red Devils" — was an infantry division of the United States Army that served in World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War, and with NATO and the U.S. Army III Corps. It was inactivated on 24 November 1992 and reflagged as the 2nd Armored Division.

The 26th Cavalry Regiment was created on October 1, 1922 in the Philippine Department. It functioned independently of any cavalry brigade or division. The 26th Cavalry Regiment, consisting mostly of Philippine Scouts, was the last U.S. Cavalry Regiment to engage in horse-mounted warfare. Their last mounted charge occurred at the town of Morong on January, 16 1942. The unit fought desperate rearguard actions both mounted and dismounted against the Japanese army throughout the American withdraw in the Philippines. Elements were enveloped by Japanese forces on Bataan and forced to surrender on April 9, 1942. Certain other elements of the regiment avoided the surrender at Corregidor and persisted in guerrilla warfare after the May 6, 1942

The 17th Cavalry Regiment is a historical organization within the United States Army that began as a regiment of cavalry after the Pancho Villa Expedition. The unit was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army as the 17th Cavalry at Fort Bliss, Texas and originally inactivated 26 September 1921 at the Presidio of Monterey, California. Formerly a part of the 1950s Combat Arms Regimental System, it was reorganized as a part of the U.S. Army Regimental System, an ongoing effort to maintain the lineage and history of the U.S. Army through its units.
