An adorable little Koala on an Eucalyptus tree.

Kookaburras (pronounced are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28 and 47 cm (11 and 19 in) in length and weigh around 300 g (11 oz). The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call. The loud, distinctive call of the laughing kookaburra is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve an Australian bush setting or tropical jungle, especially in older movies.

The Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo is found in south-eastern Australia, from Eyre Peninsula, South Australia to south and central eastern Queensland. In recent years, there has been a significant decline in Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo numbers and birds have begun to inhabit urbanised areas and forage on introduced pines. Around Sydney, Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos forage in bushland, parks and golf courses on pine cones and a range of native plants, including Banksia cones. Taken on one of my Top End Photography Tours, at Yellow Waters in Kakadu National Park. There is nothing like seeing a big croc up close to let you know you are in wild territory...and they are great at smiling for the camera!

Nothing more Australian than Kangaroo. A few live on the vineyard at Magpie Springs they are quite wild. Early morning /evening when its quiet they come round the house.

The word “kangaroo” derives from the Guugu Yimithirr word gangurru, referring to grey kangaroos. The world famous red kangaroo is the largest marsupial and the largest Australian mammal, with some males standing at two metres tall, and weighing around 85 kilograms. They are found across central Australia in all states and territories except Tasmania. They prefer semi-arid plains, grasslands, woodlands and open forests. According to an Aboriginal legend, the kookaburra’s famous chorus of laughter every morning is a signal for the sky people to light the great fire that illuminates and warms the earth by day. The laughing kookaburra is the world’s largest kingfisher and is native to eastern mainland Australia. This photo was taken in Sydney, Australia on a Nikon Coolpix P610.

The koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning “no drink” because it receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. The koala is found in coastal areas of the mainland’s eastern and southern regions, inhabiting Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
