King Edwards Bay, Tynemouth is a Blue Flag beach in a small sandy bay sheltered by cliffs and grassy banks which makes it excellent for family outings as well as fishing and water sport. The bay is overlooked by Tynemouth Priory and Castle and is pictured here on a very calm, sunny November morning with the blue sky reflecting on the waters of the North Sea giving it an almost Mediterranean colour - if a little cooler!

Druridge Bay in Northumberland is seven miles of beautiful beach between Cresswell in the south and Amble in the north and is almost deserted for much of the year. This image was taken on a fine, sunny February morning with the sandy beach under a blue sky and whispy clouds, which were reflected in the wet sand as the tide receded giving everything a lovely blue glow.

Seahorse is the name given to 54 species of small marine fishes in the genus Hippocampus. "Hippocampus" comes from the Ancient Greek word hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster".

Looking past the colourful beach huts towards the end of the promenade at Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England on a fine, sunny August morning. The sandy beach stretches south towards Seaton Sluice with St Mary's Island visible on the horizon.

The Rendezvous Cafe is an iconic art deco style cafe and ice cream shop on the promenade at Whitley Bay, North Tyneside on the North East coast of England. The building was designed and erected in 1930 as the Garden Restaurant and re-named The Rendezvous Cafe in 1957. It has been featured in a prime time advert for BP and more recently has been used in the filming of the TV crime drama 'Vera'.

A lovely, sunny spring morning on the River Tyne in the North East of England. Newcastle upon Tyne is bathed in sunshine while sitting under a blue sky with white fluffy clouds with a hint of warmer days to come - hopefully!

The Seaton Burn is a small river which flows from Big Waters Nature Reserve near Newcastle upon Tyne into the North Sea via the small tidal harbour at Seaton Sluice in Northumberland. This image was taken on a bitterly cold January morning with snowy fields and a frozen river.

A favourite view of Hull, memories of childhood, the thrill of seeing derelict docks, the sinister smoothness of shiny mud and the rotting wooden supports. The half-buried remains of bike wheels and shopping trolleys. And from this sprang the glass and metal shopping centre, its glass reflecting the sky, the walkway drawing us upwards, holding us above the darkness. In the background, the domes of the Dock Office, warm embers of recollection, of visits to the museum with my father. Seagulls chant above, according to legend the voices of lost sailors, and the air tangy with frying and vinegar scents. A wonderful souvenir of Hull, a perfect gift.
