December sunrise over the Old Wooden Pier at the mouth of the River Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. Cambois Pier and lighthouse are easily spotted on the horizon, but St Mary's Island and lighthouse can also be seen on the right of the image.

The High Level Bridge is a road and rail bridge spanning the River Tyne at Newcastle upon Tyne. Using 5050 tons of iron, the bridge was completed in June 1849. This image shows the mouth of the bridge at night looking towards the Gateshead side of the river with a woman at the end of the pedestrian path checking her mobile phone. A scene captured late in the afternoon on the River Deben near Woodbridge in Suffolk with an impressionist finish. This is the tidal stretch of the river which flows on to meet the North Sea at Felixtowe. Not only popular as a centre for watersports, particularly sailing and canoeing, this is an important ecological area - designated as a RAMSAR site (protected wetland) and an AONB (Area of Outsrtanding Natural beauty. A riverside path leads into the town of Woodbridge and its quayside.

A digital pencil drawing of the tide mill on the River Deben quayside at Woodbridge, Suffolk. This is the 'newest' of the mills that have stood on this site having been built in the 1600s. The earliest recorded mill here was in 1170. During th middle ages it was run by the local Augustinian priory but at the time of the Dissolution it passed into the hands of Henry VIII. It operated until 1957 sfter which it became derelict. However, following subsequent restoration it was re-opened in 1973.

Work on the pier was started in 1854 and it was originally curved, but storm damage to the central part of the pier led to it being re-built in a straight line. The sun was just showing over the horizon creating lovely colours in the sky which were reflecting in the sea and in the wet sand on the beach.

The Spirit of the Staithes is a public artwork on the quayside at the Port of Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. The artwork commemorates the old wooden staithes which stood on the spot when the port was the biggest exporter of coal in the world. The Tall Ship Williams II can be seen on the extreme right of the photograph.

Who doesn't like to get outside and explore? We all have our favourite pathways. This image is for those who like to hike and enjoy the trails. The lush vegetation represents being outdoors along any trail. The actual location is the Nokiidaa Trail along the East Holland River in East Gwillimbury Ontario. The Nokiidaa is an active 20 km trail that extends from Holland Landing through Newmarket to Aurora Ontario. An easy walk or trail ride along any section of the trail. Enjoy! The Import Dock on the River Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. The dock is used as part of the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club marina, as a fishing boat berth as well as a container ship base.

This is a view across upper Teesdale, near Barnard Castle in County Durham, North-East England. It was produced from my photograph of an autumn view with a dusting of early snow on the fell-tops, in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

SV Tenacious is a three-masted barque operated by The Jubilee Sailing Trust and is the biggest sailing ship built in the UK for over 100 years. The vessel is pictured here docked in the Port of Blyth on the North East coast of England just after breakfast time on a fine morning in August.

Tynemouth Priory stands on a headland on the northern bank of the River Tyne. The Priory is thought to have been founded in the early part of the seventh century and is the burial place of three kings; Edwin of Northumbria was the first in 651a.d. then Osred, King of Northumbria in 792a.d. and finally Malcolm III King of Scotland in 1093. This image was taken on an overcast June morning from a local authority car park.

The old wooden pier at Blyth in Northumberland just after sunrise on a cold December morning. The pier is popular with fishermen and the cold and early hour had not put off a small group of men trying their luck.

This unique steel Cantilever Bridge with three diamond-shaped towers crosses the river Forth at South Queensferry, Scotland. The bridge was designed by Sir John Fowler and Benjamin Baker. The bridge was built by Sir William Arrol. Constructed started in 1883. The bridge was opened in 1890 at a cost of £2.5m and 57 fatalities among the construction crew (it is now believed that the actual death toll is likely to have been closer to 80). The bridge is still in use today, carrying the railways to the north from Edinburgh. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro.

The 2016 Tall Ships Regatta gathered at the Port of Blyth in Northumberland for the first time in its sixty years of existence. This image shows the two Dutch vessels the Morgenster (a Brig) and the Oosterschelde (a three masted topsail schooner) berthed on the River Blyth prior to the race from Blyth to Gothenburg. Tall Ship The Flying Dutchman pictured after sundown on the River Blyth in Northumberland against a darkening blue sky reflecting on the calm river water and other ships lit up ready for darkness in the harbour.

Looking over a meadow near the quay on the river Alde to the village of Orford in Sussex. This was an important place in medieval times as evidenced in the castle with its fine keep built by Henry II in 1165-73. This impressive polygonal tower is well preserved and inside has rooms and a maze of passages. Near the village is Orford Ness - a shingle spit which links to the mainland at Aldeburgh. The image has a digitally produced coloured pencil finish.
