The Latin phrase along the banner " Crescit Eundo " or " It Grows as it Advances " refers to the growth of the territory which became a state in 1912.

The official logo of the Panama Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915. Essentially a World's Fair, the expo was a celebration of both the completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of Balboa's discovery of the Pacific Ocean. It also helped showcase the city's recovery from the earthquake of 1906.
