The '70s were a time of great change and experimentation for dirt bikes that resulting in some amazing rides, as well as some amazingly bad ones. While purpose built dirt bikes were available in the decade prior, they were expensive, and not always that great. As the Japanese factories fired up, newer, better designed dirt bikes began to hit the market and much to everyone's surprise — especially stalwart manufacturers — they were considerably more affordable. This mid '70s design celebrates that wondrous era that took motocross from a fringe hobby to a worldwide sport that was accessible to just about everyone. Do it in the dirt, baby!

Polar Bear Plunge Day on January 1 is not for the faint of heart or the very timid. Ice swimming is for the bold and daring. Plunging into January’s frigid waters is nothing short of the most insane yet invigorating way to celebrate the first day of every new year. Those courageous – some might say foolish – souls who don swim trunks and bikinis to splash their way into icy cold winter waters claim they are ‘freezin’ for a reason’ — usually to raise money for a good cause. Then again, there are polar-bear swimmers who just like the idea of doing something wild and crazy that doesn’t involve alcohol to kick off the New Year.

The Motocross des Nations is an annual motocross race held since 1947. Great Britain, Belgium, and Sweden dominated the racing series in the early days, but just like the "Miracle on Ice" shocked the hockey world in 1980, the U.S. team turned motocross upside down at the 1981 des Nations event. The U.S. had never won or even come close to winning, and with such a bad record, assembling riders for a team was tough to say the least. It was so tough, that the U.S. didn't even send teams in '79 and '80. 1981 was a different story, as America showed up, and when the flag dropped, Team U.S.A. shocked the racing world as they won Trophée des Nations. The 1981 event was the start of a winning streak at des Nations that lasted until 1994.
