Ironweed is named for its tough stem, and is a hardy weed, just like human hope. It reminds me to be tough, to hang on, hope will blossom again.

I have seen these pediment statues all over Europe, weathered by centuries and changed by the light of day until you can longer be certain if it is angel or devil, welcome or warning. I wanted to capture all the complications of light and tried to do so by relying on pure impressionism painting techniques....blobs of color only, no lines.

Purple Dragon This pattern is a fractal pattern that I created using a program called Frax Pro on my iPad. Fractals are never ending patterns based on mathematical equations. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a math whiz, but I'm amazed at how beautiful a math equation can be. Fractals can also be found in nature. Examples are the nautilus shell, snowflake patterns and even our galaxies. This pattern is based on the Mandelbrot equation. This pattern is predominately lavender and white. It reminds me of a Chinese Dragon so that is why it is called Purple Dragon. This pattern would look great as a print, especially on metal or acrylic. I've been making daily art by reusing old train tickets and printing on them with acrylic paint, adding layers by doodling and drawing over the top. I used one of these as a base for this textural design. I think it looks a bit like a cross between Japanese shibori and old, textured, faded jeans that have seen a bit of life!
