Escape From New York - Snake Plissken

Snakes' vision is not particularly conspicuous (generally being better in the arboreal species and worse in the terrestrial species), which does not prevent movement detection. In addition to their eyes, some snakes (crotalineans - or dimple snakes - and pythons) have sensitive infrared receptors in deep grooves called pits that allow them to feel the heat emitted by their bodies. This is extremely useful in low light places. As snakes do not have external ears, hearing can only detect vibrations, but this sense is extremely well developed. Most snakes use their forked tongue to pick up scent particles in the air and send them to the so-called Jacobson's organ, located in their mouth, to examine them. S.D. Bob "Snake" Plissken is the protagonist of the films Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. He is portrayed by Kurt Russell, and created by director John Carpenter and screenwriter Nick Castle. An anti-hero, he is a former Special Forces operator/war hero in World War III turned criminal.

Despite crime being at an all-time high in New York City during the mid '70s, the city's Mayor was said to be planning to discharge a substantial number of firefighters and police officers as a budget balancing measure. The Council for Public Safety was a group made up of firemen and policemen, and they published a visitor, pamphlet called "Welcome to Fear City: A Survival Guide for Visitors to the City of New York." with a scary reaper type figure on the cover. They hoped to make NYC seem so terrifying that the thought of laying off police and firefighters would be unconscionable. At least 1 million copies of the pamphlet were printed, and certainly had people second guessing their safety in the Big Apple.

Escape from New York is a 1981 American science fiction action film co-written, co-scored and directed by John Carpenter. It stars Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Donald Pleasence, Ernest Borgnine, Isaac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau, and Harry Dean Stanton. The film's storyline, set in the near-future world of 1997, concerns a crime-ridden United States, which has converted Manhattan Island in New York City into the country's maximum-security prison. Air Force One is hijacked by insurgents and is deliberately crashed in New York City. Ex-soldier and current federal prisoner Snake Plissken (Russell) is given just 24 hours to go in and rescue the President of the United States.
