Whilst many have seen the mountains of Glencoe, few have veered from the main road to take the back route behind the Chlachaid Inn, and fewer still would have spotted a clump of Scots pine on the hillside. Take a walk off that road at that point and in just a few yards you get this studpendous view - the reward for taking the road less travelled. I've painted it here in oil on a 16x12 inch board, based on a photo I took one snowy March a few years ago.

I was staying in Tenby looking for things to photograph for my paintings when I spotted this bright yellow building - so bright that it lit up the alley, and even the far wall which was in shadow. Coupled with a glimpse of the harbour at the end of the passage, I thought this would be good to paint one day. And today I got round to it - painted in oil on a 12x16 inch board

The river Dee starts as a couple of pools high on the Cairngorm plateau (well Braeriach plateau actually). I've stepped over the infant stream - a green edge ribbon across the bare gritty plateau - on one of my mountain walks. From there it drops into the deep U shaped Lairig Ghru valley, following its course South to this point at the edge of the big mountains of the Cairngorms. Beyond here it tumbles over the Linn Of Dee (about a mile away), and then settles down for a sedentary trundle through royal Deeside (passing Balmoral) and out to see at Aberdeen. There are many lovely views of Arundel, but one of my favourites is from the river near the station. The river is tidal at this point, so the brackish water is always a bit murky. There is a ice walk you can do from here heading upstream to the next road crossing (near Amberley), through the woods, and down into the town from the grounds around the castle. I've painted this view in oil on a 24x12 inch board based on photos I took on that walk.

The Dick Turpin Highwayman Design is inspired by Richard O'Sullivan's portrayal of the infamous horse thief and highwayman Richard 'Dick' Turpin. Hanged for horse theft in 1739, the criminal exploits of Dick Turpin became highly romanticised in the following centuries which ultimately led to the Richard O'Sullivan starring swashbuckling TV adventure which ran for 4 series in the late 70s, early 80s.

Edited photo of a portion of a vintage Union Jack flag from an antique shop. I enjoy the Pop Art and abstract design qualities in this cropped image. The fabric has an interesting weave and texture and there are marks of distress which suggest a storied life for this old flag.

This oil painting is based on photo's I took in late Summer 2020 when things almost looked like normal for a while. Its a view of cafe life on the edge of Salisbury marketplace, where you can have tea and cake under the shade of the London plane trees whilst watching the world go by - and especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays when the adjacent market is trading. for me this is perhaps my most complicate composition to date with several complex elements to get right. Painted on a 20x16 inch board over the first week of Jan 2021.

This painting is a repaint of one I did back in 1999, on top of the original version. Its a familiar scenes to anyone who has walked the Malvern Hills, or indeed bought a calendar of English country scenes. I hope you like this version painted in oil on a 20x16 inch board

This view is based on a photo I took of St Ives harbour (Cornwall, UK) at low tide one late afternoon. The sea leaves the harbour completely, so people walk amongst the boats and play on the exposed sand. There are many more boats, but this selection caught my eye.
