I discovered this lovely white church one foggy morning in central Prince Edward Island. It is the Free Church of Scotland, built in 1880. Perched on a hill along a country road, I took advantage of natural soft lighting for this pastoral scene. Pops 66 Station by Debra Martz Travel along route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma and you will find a 66 foot tall soda structure weighing in at 4 tons. The stop includes over 600 varieties of soda displayed on a glass wall, a restaurant, gas station and curio shop. This image is a partial section of the glass wall where the sodas are displayed as seen from the outside. In 1929, Cañon City, Colorado authorized the construction of the Royal Gorge Bridge which took a crew of 80 hardy men to build in just seven months' time. Their story is one of American ingenuity, hard work, and solid engineering that resulted in a masterpiece that would last for generations to come. These men worked at daredevil heights beginning on June 5, 1929, completing the bridge in time for a dedication ceremony on December 8, 1929. At 955 feet above the river, the Royal Gorge Bridge held the record of the highest bridge in the world from 1929 to 2001. A corner of London, where the light bounces off the white stucco and the sky is a cool blue, jacket weather, air that bites. A day of freedom, a day of walking and exploring, seeking out quiet streets, forgotten it seems, but the day is early. This work depicts a café on a street corner, a gentle game of shadow and light, seeped in blue and white. A perfect souvenir of London.

Walking east, across the river Hull, I enjoy the stillness of Sunday morning. The pavement already feels warm, a scent of tarmac and the brine of the Humber. Unfamiliar now, memories of childhood stirred as I remember the direction of the road. I pause outside a pub, and I decide I want to paint it, enjoying its solidity and nostalgia. There is a red lion over the door, red bricks and chalk boards, an invitation to enter and enjoy a cheerful evening. The work is full of colour, a perfect souvenir of Hull, a great gift.

A walk across the river Hull took me to a road called Strawberry Street, a place of industry and urban landscapes, a place that was quiet, at this time of day even desolate. I remembered times long gone, half a century ago when this was the area where my father worked, in a factory surrounded by walls and wire, red brick and the scent of tar. Seagulls woop. Trucks rumble by in the distance, fresh from the ferry port. And I stop to admire the pub, closed now, its net curtains hiding the interior. It reminds me of Victorian times, of foggy nights and the ghostly sound of piano music perhaps. But maybe Strawberry Street is playing tricks on me. This work makes an ideal souvenir of Hull, a great gift, or a perfect collection starter.

the Dog House, a Seattle restaurant/bar located at 7th Avenue and Bell Street (at 2230 7th Avenue). Run by Laurie Gulbransen (1913-2000) for most of 60 years, it closed in on January 31, 1994. The Dog House was an epoch of Seattle history, a virtually non-stop, open-24-hours run of food, booze, music and fellowship The Dog House was a great place where truly people of all types and ages went. Their famous sign was true -- all roads did lead to the Dog House. In some ways I think it is possible to date the death of old Seattle to when the Dog House closed. After 1993 is when the high tech, hip Seattle, the darling of the national press city really took off.

Do shops have souls? And what happens to the soul of a shop once its doors close for the last time? For a shop does not simply die, it lives on in the minds of those who once shopped there, who worked there, who created it, stocked it, cleaned it and loved it. A closed shop can provoke a fleeting sensation of grief, the end of an era, the end of a connection, a place once shared and now vanished. I saw this closed shop, and felt its energy, its soul, as decay began to wash out its once vibrant colour. I wanted it to live a little longer in paint, the lost ghostly shop of New Aquitania. The work is rich in color, in vibrancy and in detail. A perfect addition to any collection, a wonderful souvenir of France.

Ed Harvey opened his boat building business, Harvey Marine, in Aloha, Oregon back in 1954, but it really didn't get much attention from until 1974, when a 26' tall rabbit took up residence. As the story goes, a big storm damaged a fiberglass Texaco 'Big Friend' statue at a local service station and the owner brought it to Ed for fiberglass repair. Ed fixed it, but the owner never returned, so the statue lay abandoned in the boat yard for years until Ed decided to decapitate Big Friend and replace his noggin with a rabbit head of his own design. It quickly became a local landmark that became known far beyond Aloha and remains a popular roadside attraction to this very day.

Places of Proustian memory, places that evoke. This corner of Edinburgh reminds me of times long gone, of early family visits, relatives and days of hot summer freedom, when pavements smelled of tar and toy shops and Scottish sweet shops beckoned and seduced, followed by buttery scones and fizzy orange. And at the heart stands a pub, scents of ale, and the occasional roar of crowds, its colours purple and gold. I wanted to repaint this scene. A lovely gift, a great addition to any collection.

I set off down Hessle Road, on a bright morning. I came across the Half Way, solid, Victorian, a pub with wide welcoming windows, with polychrome brickwork. In the foreground, a riot of colorful bushes, and above a soft sky. Seagulls swoop, mysterious calls, that legend holds are messages from another world. The work is filled with colour and satisfying detail. This work makes an ideal souvenir of Hull, a great gift, or a perfect collection starter.

Established by a travelling showman, Mack McClung, in 1967, Snake Farm was a roadside tourist attraction of snakes, reptiles, and other exotic animals, located off of Interstate 35 in New Braunfels, Texas. The operation would later be sold off, expanded, and renamed, remaining in operation to this very day.
