Chapter 3 Records was a small record store chain in the Atlanta area from the '70s to the '90s. In Atlanta, there were three locations; Buckhead, Smyrna and North Springs. There were also locations in Morgantown, WV, Greensboro, NC and Gainesville, FL. Chapter 3 had the atmosphere of an independent store, even though it was technically a chain. It was dubbed "The Lowest Priced Record Chain in the Southeastern United States."

Turtle's Records and Tapes was an Atlanta based southern US record store chain that specialized in cassettes, vinyl, and concert tickets and later it rented movies in VHS format. Great gift for crate diggers, vinyl record lovers, old school hip hoppers, turntable spinners and vintage music lovers. License plates promoting Atlanta's WKLS 96 Rock were sold here exclusively, and concert tickets were sold here.

In 1982, Atlanta-area band Fortnox reached #44 in US airplay and the Top Twenty on MTV with their song Storm Inside My Head (Epic Records). Fortnox toured constantly for over a year, often performing in stadiums as the supporting act for top rock artists such as Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, George Thorogood and The Ramones. In 1984, Rick’s band Bombay recorded with legendary British producer Eddy Offord (Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, others). The video from the album (Rumble Tonight) was featured on MTV.

This great Atlanta-area rock band in the '80s featured David Blackmon on vocals, Dennie Bishop on guitar, Randy Hall on bass, Paul Nutall on keyboards and the LEGENDARY Thomas Carr on drums!

Rich's Cobb County was enlarged in 1968. Meanwhile, by 1970, the official name of the shopping hub had morphed to COBB CENTER. In 1973, the new shopping center on the block was CUMBERLAND MALL. This superregional complex dwarfed COBB CENTER. Cobb County's first mall did a quick "keeping up with CUMBERLAND" renovation, whereby it was renamed COBB CENTER MALL. As part of the early '70s makeover, open shopping concourses at COBB CENTER MALL were roofed-in and climate-controlled. The remodeling was completed in November 1973. The shopping hub then covered approximately 409,600 leasable square feet. It was demoted to a Clearance Center before being shuttered in early 2004.

Peaches Records & Tapes, Inc., was a Los Angeles-based national retail chain of record superstores, some as large as 15,000 square feet. The chain became a subsidiary of the Nehi Record Distributing Corporation. Tom Heiman (né Thomas Michael Heiman; born 1941) founded Peaches in 1963 and went on to become president of Nehi. At its peak, Peaches had 50 stores in 22 cities with over 2,000 employees. In June 1981, Peaches filed a petition for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 citing $20 million in debt (equivalent to $161 in 2022) for its 35 stores coast to coast, owed to Citibank and six different record distributors.

The Ramblin' Raft Race was an annual Memorial Day weekend raft race on the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta that lasted from 1969 to 1980. At its peak, more than 300,000 rafters partook in the race. Amid increasing environmentalism, the race was cancelled. It lined a route which began at Morgan Falls Dam in Sandy Springs and ended at the shallow raft take-out a few hundred yards north of I-285 in Vinings.The race began in 1969 when several Delta Sigma Phi fraternity members at Georgia Tech, organized it as a social event. When the radio station WQXI became a sponsor and promoter, the race began to draw a larger crowd.

Anthony Jerome "Spud" Webb (born July 13, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player. Webb, who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA), is known for winning the 1986 Slam Dunk Contest despite being one of the shortest players in NBA history, being listed at 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) tall. He is currently the president of basketball operations for the Texas Legends, the NBA G League team for the Dallas Mavericks in Frisco, Texas.

In 1968, WIIN was a Top 40 format AM station in Atlanta, GA. During the early 1970s WIIN changed format to progressive rock under a new local owner. WIIN was, for a while, Atlanta's only progressive rock station and quickly became known for introducing new rock music to the Atlanta market. WIIN became an adult standards/easy listening station in the late 1970s. In the early 1980s, the station changed its call letters to WKLS and format to album rock, as a simulcast of 96.1 WKLS-FM (now WWPW). Charley Magruder’s, the north Atlanta club owned by Butch Weaver from the early 1980s through its demise in 1996, was the spot that attracted a motley procession of familiar faces, from Tommy Shaw of Styx to Lemmy of Motorhead to Butch Patrick (aka Eddie Munster) to members of Metallica — all of whom would swing by. It was a launching pad for many successful bands. The now defunct WKLS 96 Rock would host events there. Along with places like Turtle's Records and Tapes, CM was a safe haven for many an Atlantan to get their ROCK on!

The Big Chicken in Marietta. GA was not originally built for a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. S.R. "Tubby" Davis built it for his eatery called Johnny Reb's Chick, Chuck 'N Shake in 1956 at 12 Cobb Parkway in Marietta. Highway 41 had just been built. He thought it was a great way to advertise. In 1966, Davis sold the restaurant to his brother, who turned it into a KFC franchise.

This Morningside venue played host to Bo Diddley, the Ventures, Stevie Ray Vaughan and R.E.M. When the Stray Cats' first Atlanta show was delayed for hours by a Monday Night Football game on the big-screen TV, bandleader Brian Setzer quipped, "We'd like to thank the Dallas Cowboys for opening for us."

Based in Georgia in the 80s, Fortnox could be described a storming power trio led by guitarist/vocalist Rick Fowler, who were signed to Epic records. In an enterprising move the label hooked them up with up with Chris Tsangarides (Ozzy Osbourne, Thin Lizzy) who took control of recording the band's sole album, in Atlanta. The results were remarkably impressive, leaving those who heard the recordings to predict big things for the band. The album received positive reviews but despite extensive touring, playing with the likes of Aerosmith, Cheap Trick and April Wine, support from the label began to dwindle, leaving the band vulnerable to forces beyond their control. WHAT IF THEY WOULD HAVE MADE IT and been honored on the HWOF?

Baby Doe’s Matchless Mine was a three-story restaurant and bar jutted out over I-285 above the Chattahoochee River in the 1980s.With its tin roof, water tower, and tipple cars, the ramshackle wooden structure looked like a theme-park attraction. The entrance resembled a mineshaft, which led either up to the dining room or down to the bar and dance floor. Decor was fringed Victorian lampshade–meets–rusting pickax. This location at Powers Ferry Road was actually part of a seven-city national chain named for Elizabeth “Baby Doe” Tabor, an infamous gold-digger (silver, to be accurate) who married a wealthy Colorado mining mogul twice her age in the late 19th century.

Franklin Music was a store chain originally founded in 1968 by former Sam Goody employee Albert S. Franklin. The very first Franklin Music was opened inside Philadelphia's Echelon Mall. Hi-Fi equipment, Musical instruments, sheet music and records/tapes (8-track and cassettes) were sold in the store. The chain expanded to New Jersey and then to the Atlanta area. It dissolved into Camelot Music eventually.

TBS was originally established on December 17, 1976, as the national feed of Turner's Atlanta, Georgia, independent television station, WTCG. The decision to begin offering WTCG via satellite transmission to cable and satellite subscribers throughout the United States expanded the small station into the first nationally distributed "superstation." With the assignment of WTBS as the broadcast station's call letters in 1979, the national feed became known as SuperStation WTBS, and later SuperStation TBS, TBS Superstation, or simply TBS. The channel broadcast a variety of programming during this era, including films, syndicated series, and sports.

The Agora Ballroom was an Atlanta music venue that was formerly Alex Cooley’s Electric Ballroom. .The Agora closed in 1983 and burned down in 1987. Here are just a handful of acts that graced the stage; Devo, The Ramones, Sting, The Police, Muddy Waters, The B-52's.

The station first signed on in March 1967 as WREC-FM, sister to WREC 600 AM. In December 1975, the station went to an automated Country music format with the call letters WZXR. On September 25, 1977, the station switched to AOR. Except for a brief flirtation with Top 40 in 1985 and 1986, the station has played some form of rock ever since. Known as "Rock 103," WEGR has been consistently programmed with a classic rock format for more than 40 years. Its mascot is a walrus, which has seen numerous incarnations. The "rock" in this logo is the same as WKLS Atlanta's 96 Rock logo.
