I was bullied as a child. I realized as I got older that the society I grew up in tended to view kindness as a weakness, and it was around then I realized that it was better to not fit in. Manatees are well-known for their friendly, loving natures, and to me they are like many of the gentle misfits out there who are beaten into submission by bullying that it isn’t okay to be kind— the bullies are wrong.
