The Yule Goat is a pre-Christian tradition from Scandanavia and Northern Europe. His origins are clouded in the mists of time with many cultures adding their own take on him. He is a symbol of the changing of the seasons, of the renewal of the year at the Winter Solstice.

As the winter solstice is coming, may you have a blessed yuletide season and a happy Yule.

The Yule Cat awaits its next victim

The Yule Cat is a huge and vicious cat who lurks about the snowy countryside during Christmas time (Yule) and eats people who have not received any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve.

We celebrated Yule before Christmas was cool!

"There was a belief that a monster was in a journey: it was the Christmas Cat!" If you know the story, you already know that is part of the icelandic Christmas folklore, and that you will love this purr-evil version of it!

December 20 – Bjúgnakrækir (Sausage-Swiper) The ninth of the Yule Lads comes on the eve of the 20th of December and departs for home on the second of January. He was known to hide in the rafters and steal sausages that were being smoked.

The Yule Goat is a Northern European holiday tradition said to have originated with the worship of Thor. Some believe the Yule Goat is a regular old goat 364 days of the year and turns into a bearded man in a red suit to deliver presents to the children of the world every Christmas Eve. Whatever the truth is, isn't this pagan cute?
