During the war of 1812 (1812-1814) british troops landed on the shores of present day Sodus Point, New York. When they were fired upon by the locals the retreated back to the ship because they didn’t know the strength of their enemy. the next day the British forces attacked again and the baldy outnumbered US forces retreated, leaving the British to loot and burn the entire town with the exception of one house which was being used as a hospital for a wounded US combatant. On this the 200th anniversary of the Battle, re-enactor were on hand to demonstrate weapons of the day and tell the story of the battle.

This vintage comic book style design depicts an alternate version of the day during the War of 1812 when the British burned the White House just hours after first lady Dolley Madison had its valuables loaded onto wagons. This design answers the questions: What if Dolley Madison hadn't rejected her house manager's idea to blow up the White House when it was full of British troops? And what if the tornado that blew through Washington DC the next day had come early? Dolley is pictured here with two things she made sure escaped the White House that day: Gilbert Stuart's portrait of George Washington, and her pet macaw Polly—star of the Plodding Through The Presidents episode "Potty-Mouthed Parrots."

The 6th Infantry Regiment ("Regulars") was formed 11 January 1812. Zachary Taylor, later the twelfth President of the United States, was a commander of the unit. The motto, "Regulars, By God!" derives from the Battle of Chippawa, in which British Major General Phineas Riall noticed that the approaching regiment had on the uniforms of militia, which the British had defeated at Queenston Heights. Instead, the Americans pressed the attack. Riall is believed to have said, "Those are Regulars, By God!", though the only source of this was opposing U.S. General Winfield Scott.
