Pen and ink and watercolour shield featuring the town named after the battle in 1066 which saw the Norman armies under William Duke of Normandy defeat the depleted and tired Anglo Saxon army of King Harold Godwinson (they had marched from the north having defeated a Viking army). Images clockwise from top: Battle Abbey (11th-16th century), Battle roundabout sculpture (2016), Battle High Street (which includes many Grade II Listed buildings from the 16th century onwards) and St Mary's Church (12th century).
