The early '60s saw the minibike craze take off, though these compact bikes that were intended for kids were being bought up by adults at almost three to one. While minibikes could handle hauling a grown man around just fine, the weak link was the clutch, which would typically burn out rather quickly. Canton, Ohio's Mercury Clutch decided to do something about this and developed their 'man-size' clutch units that were direct replacements on most minibikes. Now, grown men could reliably enjoy their minibikes, whether going on a beer run from home or scooting around the pits at the local track.
