Coltman Street, Hull, England Mug

A walk in West Hull, to Coltman Street, near Hessle Road. The houses are fascinating here, beautiful models of Victoriana, town houses filled with history, stories of fishing, of wars and social revolution. Seagulls call to each other, according to Saxon and Norse legend the voices of the dead. There is a scent of brine, of cooking, of lilac and cut grass. It is quite today, a gentle pulse of city life. I enjoy this walk through the west of Hull, crossing from the Humber up towards the city's Avenues area. This corner of the street boasts a terrace of painted houses that I enjoy.
