The Golden Age of Steam, April 1946 I came across this little gem while sorting through a box of old photographs following a family bereavement. It captures a Southern Railway 4-6-2 Merchant Navy class locomotive, number 21C1, the 'Channel Packet' hauling the Golden Arrow Pullman train out of London Victoria station. The Golden Arrow was a luxury 'boat train' service which ran from London to Paris. The train consisted entirely of luxury coaches built by the British Pullman Company. In its time, it was one of the most famous train services in the world (perhaps second only to the Orient Express) until the service ended in 1972.
