Armed with a sketchbook and pens, I recently challenged myself to complete the 3000km Tour Aotearoa, sketching all 30 of the official photo checkpoints. I drew in rain, wind and bbq-hot temperatures, always aware that I had to keep riding on before it got dark! I'm super happy with the results and hope you enjoy them too. A new rugby style, every time every day.

Every two years, hundreds of cyclists ride 3000km down the length of New Zealand. Along they way, to officially complete the route they stop at 30 photo checkpoints. Here they all are in their sketched glory!

Tauhou is the Maori name for the Silvereye. This design features 3 Tauhou flying in formation. This Bird is designed with curving korus and curving colours which represent the true colours of the beautiful Silvereye. The silvereye, also know as Wax-eye (Zosterops lateralis) or White-eye, colonised New Zealand from Australia and is one of New Zealand’s widespread bird species. It is found throughout New Zealand. Silvereyes are small songbirds that are easily recognised by a white eye-ring; their feathers are olive-green above and cream below.

Fantail, a native bird of New Zealand, called Piwakawaka in Maori. I have drawn this using Koru designs based on unfurling fern fronds. This vector design is bold and simple. 2 shades of brown, and on some products, an earthy, light brown background.

Large Kiwi print designed with koru. The koru (Māori for loop) is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattoos. I drew this for a mural a few years ago, thanks to society6 it is getting a new lease on life.
