So, here I am experimenting with light and color. This is in our utility room -- three plastic containers of detergent and other clothes cleaning products, some light, and manual focus to greater than legal blindness. I just like the colors. I remember many years ago, as a high school senior, visiting the DuPont Labs in Delaware and having a chemist tell us how they created the dyes that made plastics all sorts of different colors. These illustrations are based from some of my childhood memories of growing up in the coal mining village of Pegswood in the North East of England. “Pinnie” is the name for the colourful apron women in mining villages in the North East of England wore constantly throughout their working days, and the term “Hinnies” is the name most Geordie men, affectionately called their woman in the mining villages, hence the name of the series Pinnie Hinnies. During Lock Down, I started sketching these Pinnie Hinnies, which I had created on my iPad Pro 12.9” using an Apple Pencil in the Procreate drawing App.
