Monte di Pieta' is a religious organization founded for charity purpose by a minor brother Giovanni Maltei da Calvi in 1539. Monte's activity consisted of money lending on the lowest interests and often without obligation to return money at all. At present their functions had notably changed. Its first seat was in zone of Banchi Vecchi, from where they were transferred by Sixtus V to the via dei Coronari, and in 1603 the organization acquired this Renaissance palace, built here by O.Mascherino for the cardinal Prospero Santacroce Publicola. The 1956 Memorial Square is approximately a kilometer long mixed-use concrete-covered area featuring the 1956 Monument. The square often hosts big public events, festivals, civil programs, parades and other festivities and celebrations. The monument of the 1956 uprising is the central element of the square, commemorating the thousands of brave Budapesters, who took up arms against soviet oppression. A still functional, and obviously designed with Art Deco in mind, Bridge in Sacramento. The temperatures reached 105 degrees (F) that weekend so I went out in the relatively cool morning air (if you can call 80 degrees cool, I was still sweating quite a bit) to capture the essence of the bridge which was glowing yellow in the mid-morning light.. The caves on Elephanta Island, just offshore from Mumbai, India, are stunning. Carved out of rock cliffs, the caves, there are several, have their origins in both Buddhist and Hindu worship. Today, This cave, "Cave No. 1", dates back to the 4th or 5th centuries. the caves are designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sather Tower, Berkeley California, 10/1/2011 Sather Tower is a campanile (bell and clock tower) on the University of California, Berkeley campus. It is more commonly known as The Campanile due to its resemblance to the Campanile di San Marco in Venice, and serves as UC Berkeley's most recognizable symbol. It is the second northernmost and second oldest public bridge in Budapest. The second permanent bridge of Budapest, a distinguished example of French Neo-Baroque bridge-building in Hungary. This is a depiction of several skeletal trees, each ready to meet winter. The white sky stands in stark contrast with the branches of the trees as they trace their way across the image. The branches trace a filigree-like pattern that appears to fan out diagonally across the frame, reaching into every corner.

CD'S ARE BACK!

We had been driving across the Nebraska Plains, looking at how the railways supported the agricultural communities along our route. It seemed that in every small town we drove through there were grain elevators there to hold the harvested crops, always next the a railway line. This elevator was in Big Springs, Nebraska. Of all the elevators we saw, this had to be one of the largest. What I love about this image is the combination of the yellow-orange of the elevator and the almost mauve of the sky, and the way this massive structure overlooks the perfectly straight railway tracks.
