Literally it means “a place for drinking”, it’s essentially a Japanese tapas restaurant with loads alcohol, and a great variety of small plates of food for sharing. Many chain izakayas have picture menus in Japan, which also ups the awesome factor when you don’t speak Japanese. Just beware of “nonkotsu”… it looks like fried chicken, but it fried pieces of cartilage… we’ve made that mistake before. Get this shirt and get to an izakaya now!
