The Budhanilkantha statue of the Hindu god Vishnu, located about 10 kilometers from Kathmandu at the base of the Shivapuri Hill, is the largest stone carving in all of Nepal. Carved from a single block of black basalt stone of unknown origin, the Budhanilkantha statue is 5 meters in length and it lies in a reclining position inside a recessed tank of water (the cosmic sea). Called the Sleeping Vishnu, or Jalakshayan Narayan, the statue depicts the deity reclining on the twisting coils of the cosmic serpent Shesha (the eternal, multi-headed king of the serpent deities known as Nagas, and also is the servant of Vishnu). Bhaktapur was the capital city of the Greater Malla Kingdom until the 15th century and was an independent kingdom from then until the 18th In 1744, Prithvi Narayan Shah, descendent of Dravya Shah, who was the founder of the Gorkha dynasty, began a conquest march in the Kathmandu Valley, capturing and unifying Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, and the smaller towns of the Valley under one rule. In 1934, a major earthquake destroyed over 2,000 houses and severely damaged over 2,000 more homes. Over 1,000 people died in this quake. Restoration of many buildings was undertaken over the years.

Taken at Pharping which is a town south of Kathmandu. Pharping is known to the Tibetans as Yanglseshö, and to the Nepali as Pharping. Pharping lies about two hours by bus from Ratna Park outside of Kathmandu. For Hindus its a very sacred place too and well known, because of the Dakshin Kali temple that lies in the valley near Pharping.

Patan Durbar Square is situated in the center of Patan city, also known as Lalitpur, houses the residence of the former Patan royal family. Patan Square and its surroundings are good specimens of ancient Newari architecture. There are three main courtyards in the palace: Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk and Keshav Narayan Chowk. Mul Chowk, the oldest one, is at the centre of Patan square. Think this image shows, from left to right - Ganesh, Narsingha and Hanuman statues.

Near the lake is well developed for tourists with many hotels, restaurants and expensive shops. While polluted the lake is pretty especially round sunset.
