On route to Milford Sound there is a deep valley which is almost totally protected from the wind and 3 small lakes there reflect the scenery as in a mirror. In fact, in a couple of them one can only see the view up-side-down in the lakes as vegetation prevents the viewer seeing the actual landscape on the other side of the lakes. It had rained most of the morning. This was the first time the clouds rose high enough to see Elephant Butte, off to the right. Fifteen minutes later the rain came through again and obscured the view to the point where you couldn't even see the mittens. Dramatic weather only serves to enhance the view of Monument Valley in northern Arizona.
